Circulation Policies

For WLS libraries, materials are circulated according to rules set for the checkout library. These rules are primarily based on: checkout library, item circulation modifier, and patron profile.

The rules define:

• whether the type of material can circulate or not
• the type of patron who can or cannot borrow the type of material (patron profile)
• for how long an item can be borrowed (loan duration)
• if an item can be renewed, how many renewals are allowed, and if those renewals include autorenewals (loan duration)
• per day overdue fine rate (recurring fines)
• the maximum amount of fines that can be accrued (max fines)

There are system wide rules (see table below) based on the circulation rules of the majority of libraries, and will apply to a circulation if the checkout library does not have its own local rule. If the system rules do not match your library’s circulation policies, contact the Help Desk to set up local rules.

• When Holdable = No is indicated, there are separate system wide Hold Policies that apply to the Circulation Modifiers
