Welcome to Tech Tips! We’re having a contest!
Welcome to the Tech Tips blog from the WLS IT team. It’s designed to bring you help tips, tech hacks, and news about emerging tech trends. We’ll update you about changes to WLS IT procedures and SirsiDynix-related software. We’ll offer suggestions for how to use online tools. We’ll let you know what’s new and what’s ahead for Westchester Library tech-related innovation and digital literacy. We’ll introduce a site or tool that you may be able to use in a program, that’s related to a display, or one that’s just plain cool. From week to week, you may find out how the WLS wireless network has changed, how to answer a question like “What hold did I miss out on last week when I was sick and couldn’t pick up my book?,” what a Kano computer kit is, or how to find out what a website looked like five years ago.
It’s all part of building 21st century digital literacy resources and environments at
WLS and libraries. We hope you’ll find this a resource that you’ll come back to and that’s worth sharing with others. To encourage your input, we’re holding a contest to win a 6-in-1 Educational Solar Robotics kit . Below are the details about how to be entered to win.
Official Rules: To enter, leave a comment on this post by March 21 and mention something about technology (what do you love? what do you use? what do you want to know more about?). Provide your real e-mail address so we can get in touch with you later (it will not be posted on the Internet). You must be an employee of a Westchester Library System member library to win. The winner will be announced on the blog.
We look forward to your comments! Good luck!
Wearables are where it’s at!
Thanks for creating Tech Tips blog. I think we will all find it highly useful, and will come back frequently to read this blog!!
Awesome Idea!
I love working with technology although it can be trying at times.
I’m excited to have a new tech resource! There are some things I’m pretty comfortable with–Borrowing ebooks for my kindle–and some things I’m trying to improve–my skills with excel and google drive.
I’d like more information on the VDI system, and how to set non-Apple phones to vibrate instead of ringing.
Great idea guys!!! I love reading about technology and how to use tips and tricks (and hacks) to make my life more productive and more fun! I attended a terrific workshop with Allison today and got a leg up on report station… thanks Allison! 🙂
what do you love?: Mobile site technology allows us to be their library in their pocket.
what do you use? Using social media and digital databases we’re able to reach out and offer services to our library patrons without them having to step out in the snow.
what do you want to know more about? How to improve our digital presence, increase use of our website and collection of online resources, and improve public awareness of the library through digital means.
Hi. I love that my phone is also a calendar, a photo album, an MP3 player (with all my songs downloaded from Freegal), a book reader, a game console, and, of course, the internet. Small, portable, and only one device.
This is a welcome addition — I often get tips in my email from Techlicious — the other day they posted 10 gmail shortcuts! Looking forward to learning from this blog!
The wiki is getting better everyday! I like to learn about all the new technologies on the horizon.
Terrific resource: “How to Do Cir. tips” and WiFi Faq. Geat way to keep abreast of library statistics.
Diane
Would like to learn about sites that can be utilized in storytime programs.
Thanks for doing this!
We just got a set of littleBits at Ossining PL and I’d love to know more about how to use them.
This is a very useful blog to have up and running! I LOVE using Overdrive and Freegal on my Kindle Fire and on my phone! I try to keep up with all of the latest technology but since it changes so frequently I will be looking to this blog to keep me informed.
I’d love to learn more about advanced robotics! Boston Dynamics’ robot, Atlas, is pretty awesome!
I’m always interested in learning about new gadgets such as what is shown in the picture above, and discovering the possibilities it may have when used in (or outside of) a library setting.
The Tech Tips blog is a great way to stay informed of new technologies and share ideas on how to make technology more accessible to our patrons. One question that came up recently is how to show a YouTube video using a DVD.
Technology changes so fast it;s hard to figure out what to focus on. I would like more time saving tips on every day computing.
Thank you in advance !!
I just LOVE anything run by solar power!
This blog is fantastic!
Thank you so much.
Would it be possible to tape the WLS Tech classes (ex. Arduino) and put them on this site?
We will be adding videos that we create as well as links to helpful videos and websites about tech topics. It’s great to know what kind of things that you’re interested in, like Arduino. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks everyone for the ideas and comments! It’s great to know what you’re interested in!
Great idea! I always love learning shortcuts on any system. New Sirsi shortcuts are always welcome to make things a little easier!
Am looking forward to learning more tips for Sirsi as well as electronic resources 🙂
I love the one stop resource: kindle update notice, how to do tips, SIRSI short cuts, latest digital books and quick access to training schedule. I am not tech savvy person so this is a quick way to keep abreast of updates and tech. news.
