Question: What kind of Wifi is installed at Westchester Library System (WLS) libraries?
Answer: High performance Cisco Meraki access points (APs) were installed throughout the 38 WLS member libraries (except at four locations that have their own systems) as of September 18, 2015.

Question: A patron asked: why is the new wireless slower than it was before the upgrade?
Answer: The new system is actually much faster than our previous system. A new feature with this upgrade is each library patron has a “fair share” (3/mbps) of the wireless resources available to them. No one is permitted to hog all the resources.

Question: We have better coverage in some locations while others seem worse. Help?
Answer: WLS requested library floor plans from all member libraries. We then shared these with the AP manufacturer and worked closely with them to project the best locations for installation. To this date, every library that followed these projections has seen satisfactory results.

Question: Is my information safe while using wireless?
Answer: The patron wireless network is not secure, unless you are connected to a web page that employs encryption (banks, shopping, etc.)

Question: When searching for our wireless name we see StaffSecure. What is it?
Answer: This wireless deployment is for library staff to use for wireless personal email, etc. as each library director deems appropriate. This access has a “fair share” of 2/mbps, insuring no one can hog all wireless resources.

Question: I don’t see the StaffSecure name. Where did it go?
Answer: As of the October 19, 2017 PLDA meeting, StaffSecure has been eliminated at all sites with the VDI environment. A hidden wireless name has been added for all WLS laptops.

Question: What are the hours of availability of the wireless networks?
Answer: The patron wireless network is available from 7:00am to 11:00pm daily.

Question: Can we print using this new wireless network?
Answer: Absolutely! When you have a document you would like to print, go to the library web site and read its directions for mobile printing.

Question: We just had a complaint about someone getting terrible connectivity in an area where many people are connecting with no problem. What can we advise?
Answer: Library staff is not able to provide detailed technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided you will be able to make a wireless connection.
