General Information
Each month has 2 files.

Beginning July 2013, XLSX will be the default file format for Client Info files. This is due to the length of the file, which now exceeds the maximum allowed size of an XLS formatted file.

Beginning January 2015 XLSX will be the default file format for both the Client Info and All Clients files.

The All Clients File
The 20XXXX_all_clients.xlsx file has information on all active users at a single point in time. The system gathers this information in 15 minute increments.

This information can be used to determine peak hours of usage. It also shows what kind of hardware is being used.

For libraries with multiple access points, you can also generally determine which physical areas of the library are being used to gain access to the Internet. The AP Name field corresponds with a label on the Access Points installed at the library.

Entries that have a “0.0.0.0” IP address are devices that have connected to the network, but did not proceed past the Welcome Screen. This means that at that point in time, the user did not yet accept the terms of the EULA to proceed to the Internet. This could be because a device carried into the library identified the network, but the user did not try to use that device.

The Client Information File
The 20XXXX_client_info.xlsx file contains information on every session a device has on the Patron Wireless Network. The system gathers information to generate in 15 minute increments.

This reports can be used to determine length of time users spend on the Internet in the library. Each entry indicates a unique device for each day and shows the time a device connects and disconnects from the network as well as the total duration of the session.

This report also shows the amount of data transferred during the session.

For libraries with multiple access points, you can also generally determine which physical areas of the library are being used to gain access to the Internet. The AP Name field corresponds with a label on the Access Points installed at the library.

Helpful Scripts for Parsing Date and Time
[[Parsing Date and Time in Wireless Log Files]] is a page that has scripts developed and shared by Andrew Farber at GRE to convert time and date data into usable fields in Excel. There is no Help Desk assistance on using these scripts.

Use Excel to Filter Statistics
There is a very easy way in Excel to isolate statistics relevant to your library. In each form there is a column which identifies devices by library. In the Client Info file the column is titled “SSID” in the All Clients file the column is titled “AP Name”.

By clicking on the column letter, you will highlight the entire column. Then apply an AutoFilter. In Office 2003 this is found under Filter in the Data menu. In Office 2007 this is found in the Data tab and clicking Filter.

A drop down menu will then appear at the top of the column allowing you to choose a SSID or device name, both of which are named for the libraries they reside in. This will filter out the information relevant to the specified library.
