Melanie’s Upgrade Likes:

1. Right click function: you can right click on any barcode from the checkout/checkin/display patron etc screen and it will give you options without having to open up a new wizard.

A new Hold feature hopefully will be approved by the Tech Committee soon.This feature will include a new wizard for you to open up your own list of “On Shelf Items On Hold” without having to login to LIBREP. It will also let you pass an item that you can not find without having to place it in “Missing”.

Please use the ID manager to cleanup patron records. You must activate it by unsecuring the computer. This works for Temp. cards and Lost cards by erasing the previous ID and allowing that barcode number to be used again. See attached instructions w/screenshots.

There are 2 new locations:
“ANTIQUES” (for antiques and collecting)
“J PHONICS”

WLS is aware of Sirsi acting slow and is working with Client Care. If you are experiencing this, please document what function you are using and how long it takes for it to work and send an email to the help desk.

A lot of “Assumed Lost” items are appearing on patrons records. This is because they are now considered “active” checkouts after the Sirsi upgrade in June. If you find very old items on patrons records and these items belong to your library, you can check them out to “Discard All” and this will remove them from the patrons records.

ILL Department request:

Since WLS re-uses there barcode numbers, they have to put manual fines on the patrons records for overdue ILL books. This manual fine does not include the information of the items that they borrowed, so they put a manual note on each patron’s record with that information. Please remove that note once the fine has been paid off. See attached illustration.

Request from Rob Calouri:

When checking out materials and a hold comes up for another patron, please remember to hit the first override button and not the second. The second one not only overrides the hold and cancels it for that patron.

ARM is now allowing there 3 week circulating books to be renewed for a second time for 1 week due only. You can call ARM and they will renew that item for the patron.

Please email Melanie with the name of a contact person who deals with the “Problem Shelf” at your library. If this person is also the head of circulation, you do not need to send an email.

Poll: Anyone using patron barcodes w/smartphones for checkout? Yes!
There are many apps for displaying barcodes and some do not format the barcode correctly, which was the only major problem. But the number is clearly displayed that allows manual entry.

There will now be a new helper icon labeled the User ID Manager. Click on the icon to open which allovs you to move the Active ID (ie Temp IDs) to the right (use arrows) into the Inactive IDs and lastly into the Discard IDs. Click OK at the botom of this screen to make changes. There are left arrows to undo any changes made. Fear not
