Circ. Committee Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2018, 9:30 am

Melanie began the meeting.

  • Evergreen has been voted in as the new open source ILS and will go live on April 1, 2019.
  • Juvenile materials have a new home location option: J-GRADELEV for grade level reading

Allison opened with introductions around the room.

  • Please update your contact information in the Google sheets Member Library ILS Contacts and Circulation Contacts. Consider, with appropriate input from the appropriate decision-makers at your library, who in your library will lead the charge in learning the new Evergreen technology (TechXperts tab). Allison is also looking for someone at each library to coordinate and scheduling training (Scheduling/Logistics tab). Use these links to access the sheets. Please contact Allison if you have any trouble with access.

  • Training for Evergreen will be available onsite, at regional locations throughout the county, and at WLS. Allison has 12 laptops and will travel. There will also be online and on demand training through the IT Wiki.
  • WLS Staff is still awaiting Evergreen training. Library staff training will likely take place during February and March.
  • While we await migration, now is a good time to clean up the database and examine local procedures for efficiency and possible changes.
  • Allison demonstrated how the little blue box in the lower right hand corner of your computer screen minimizes all windows at once and provides access to the desktop.
  • Remember to go to the IT Wiki for tips, training videos, and links to resources. New information is being added all the time.
  • Allison and the Help Desk can connect with you onscreen if you need help with Workflows or Blue Cloud.
  • Allison demonstrated how to connect remotely to a Workflows work session using the VMWare Horizon Client on your own computer. Login is through Active Directory. The Help Desk can help you set this up.
  • Allison discussed and demonstrated using tabbed windows in Workflows. This is considered a “best practice.”

General discussion ensued.

  • Croton is looking at revising its holds and transit slips. They asked for samples.
  • Rye sticky slips will not be used on the paper pages but sometimes patrons use them as bookmarks. RYE is trying to keep them out of patron hands.
  • There is apparently a random problem with receipt printers and VDI resulting in streaming printing of stray characters. Try to contact the Help Desk right away if this happens to you.
  • If the delay is too long between scanning items and printing slips mistakes happen. There may be a way to reduce this delay. More on this later.
  • There was an important discussion about offering County-wide online registration for library cards thus negating the need for temp cards. Temp cards don’t always work as intended because of how they are handled at individual libraries.
  • Construction is going on at SCA, CHA, RYE, YWI (outside) and WHI in the museum, gallery, and meeting rooms
