Print this?
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in our new WLS headquarters almost six weeks. Walls, carpets, tables and chairs are still bright and shiny. Five rooms and offices have whiteboard walls for making lists and generating ideas. Since the whole wall is painted, Rob quickly asked the question, “How will we store the markers and eraser so they’re handy?” Almost as quickly, he got an idea for an answer: he sat down to design a 3D printable eraser and marker holder. As you can see in the photo, the design is simple and effective. Once printed and tested, he shared it on Thingiverse so others can print them, too.
Starting this fall, WLS will hold 3D design and print workshops for library staff. You can learn the fundamentals of how to design with Tinkercad 3D design software, how to print objects, and how to share your designs. Stay tuned for details, dates, and times.
3D design and printing are handy that way. Anyone can design, print, and share practical or fun objects, solving problems on the fly. As I write, the last holder is printing. What’s next? I’m redesigning a hook for cubicle wall.
