Melanie:
• Items Marked “Missing” are deleted after 1 year. This is only true for the System Missing Items. Any item checked out to an individual Library as missing IE: DOB Missing will not be affected and must be cleaned by that library.
• Staff cards are there for a purpose. If you are unsure of a patron’s “Staff” status please investigate. Also the Library where the person works should be listed as the 2nd address.
• Item Cat. 3: there is now only one item “Book” no longer will you see “JuvBK”, or “YABK” the parameters for adult, juvenile, and Young Adult appear elsewhere and are redundant in that line.
• Melanie explained the process of removing extra patron IDs via “ID Manager”, she also showed where the helpful links are on the wiki that will teach your staff how to accomplish many of these tasks.
• You don’t need a name or card number to locate a patron there are other searchable fields such as; Email, Birthdate, telephone just to name a few.
• Cash Management has a tab for bills paid at the self-check stations. This is a good place to find those other library’s lost and paid items in order to reimburse them.
• Sirsi 3.5 upgrade due soon, no date has been set as yet. Some changes to look for; 1) list of checkouts will now provide the call number, 2) number of copies will display in column with searching result 3) a new helper = Change display library will appear in cataloging and will allow you to view items from just your library, 4) Some libraries require signatures and SIRSI will be able to accommodate with some added equipment, 5) “Buy it now” button will appear on the catalog… this needs to be configured. Look for more info in the not too distant future.
• Analytics is still being constructed and may be available by the end of the year… it will require additional training because it is much more robust and therefore more complicated than Director’s Station.
Questions / comments:
• How many “Claims Returned” before a patron is blocked? Quick answer is it is unlimited. Libraries must keep an eye on this and block a patron when appropriate.
• Claimed returns are never automatically changed to lost. They have been claimed as returned and should be on your shelf (ha ha!).
• Temporary cards allow 3 items of any type.
• Why does WLS automatically transfer juvenile cards to teen cards at the age of 12 and not 13? This policy was voted on by PLDA many years ago. Unsure if this will be re-visited.
• What card type do libraries use for nannies? Most libraries use regular cards as if the nanny were an employee working in their area.
• Purchase Library will be staying open in their current location.
• Lewisboro’s newly renovated library is now open and all is good…come check it out!
• Harrison should be reopening in August.
• As of right now Lewisboro and Somers libraries do not have fax capabilities. If you have any business that you would normally fax please scan it and send it to them via email or as a last resort via snail mail.

Next meeting is Thursday September 10th and Hastings Library should be taking the minutes.

Everybody please have a Happy and safe summer!!
